Description: The Mineral County Museum is pleased to invite you to attend the opening of our exhibit on Nevada’s First Constitution, commemorating the 150th year of Nevada’s Statehood. The first State Constitution was submitted to a vote at an election held on January 19, 1864 and was defeated by voters of the Territory of Nevada. Featured speaker at the opening will be noted Nevada author and historian Robert E. Stewart who is best known for his book, Aurora, Nevada’s Ghost City of the Dawn. The exhibit displays a copy of the proposed Constitution as it was published on December 30, 1863 in the Esmeralda Star newspaper at Aurora. Biographical information about the delegates to the Constitutional Convention elected by the voters of Esmeralda County will also be displayed. (Esmeralda County was Mineral County’s predecessor governing body.) Please join us at the opening of this exhibit, the first to be held in our County Museum during this Sesquicentennial Year. Refreshments will be available.
