Description: In recognition of Nevada and National Rural Health Day and in conjunction of the upcoming celebration of the Sesquicentennial of Nevada, the University of Nevada School of Medicine State Office of Rural Health will be honoring Nevada’s whom have made significant contributions to medicine and health care in rural Nevada. This event celebrates thus people who have made a significant contribution in making rural Nevada a better place to live because of the service they have provided through patient care, legislation, education and other impacts affecting the quality of health in Nevada. Revisiting our “Comstock” mining heritage and the need for quality health care and medicine in the 1870’s and tracing the evolution of not only medicine but also public health throughout the statehood, brings together the history of the past to the needs of rural and urban health in Nevada. Those selected to be honored will be invited to a special ceremony on Nov. 21, 2013 at the former site of one of Nevada’s finest hospital’s of its time, St. Mary’s Louise Hospital in Virginia City, NV. We will be presenting awards, including a Governor’s proclamation for Nevada Rural Health Day. Invited guests will include the Governor, President of the University of Nevada, Dean of the University of Nevada, School of Medicine, the Board of Directors for the Nevada Rural Hospital Association, specially invited guests, media and the general public.
Nevada Rural Health Day, Honoring Pioneers in Nevada Medicine
