Description: Two lectures are available, rotating every other week. Reno History Tour: Visit Nevada’s oldest cultural institution and learn about Reno’s exciting history through artifacts, photographs and a docent’s tour. Hear about the early railroad coming to Reno, the mining booms, the first automobiles, making gambling illegal in 1910 and legal again in 1931, prohibition, the divorce era, Reno as Sin City, the beginnings of the gaming industry, growth of UNR, the history of the Reno arch and Reno as the biggest town in Nevada from 1887 through 1950. Nevada History Tour: Hear about Nevada’s wonderful history at Nevada’s oldest cultural institution, the Nevada Historical Society. Explore the history, artifacts and customs of Native Americans, frontier society, mining and agriculture, daily life, early transportation from walking through Nevada to the first plane in Nevada, and early Las Vegas and slot machines.
