Description: This is the fourth Native American Visiting Artists Series at the Old Las Vegas Fort. Meet Gerald Pinto, who is a member of the Navajo-Dine Tribe in New Mexico, as the guest artist in the Native American Visiting Artist Series at the Old Fort. He will be displaying and speaking about his unique pottery inspired by Japanese Raku pieces. Gerald has been etching and painting pottery since 1987, having older siblings who are Silversmith’s and a mother who weaved and gave him insight into creativity and design. He uses cedar wood for his firings and polishing is done with a burnished piece of amber. The pottery is finished with a very light pine pitch & mineral oil glaze. He uses Kingman turquoise for his inlays and copper bands as a final touch on his pottery. Gerald will show us the stages of creating pottery, and he will have items for sale. For more information please contact the Friends of the Fort at 702-486-3511 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
