Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Churchill County Fairgrounds. 325 Sheckler Road. Fallon, NV (Churchill)
Description: Fallon will be in the national spotlight on Aug. 8 as Fallon Fights get top televised billing on ESPN2 as part of the network’s “Friday Night Fights” series. The nationally broadcast boxing event will be put on by a partnership of Terry and Tommy Lane’s new promotions company Dynasty Boxing and DiBella Entertainment. Fallon Fights will feature two main events and four or five undercard bouts. Cleveland middleweight Willie Nelson is scheduled to fight in the main 10-round bout. Heavyweight Zhang Zhilei, an Olympic silver medalist, will fight a four-round bout against a to-be-announced opponent. Fighters will trade blows in an outdoor boxing ring at the Churchill County Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena, making for a spectacular spectator setting under the stars. Tickets will remain affordable for local residents, with $15 grandstand tickets offering prime seats for up-close boxing viewing. Event organizers say that an energetic crowd of Fallon fight fans and good boxing bouts could convince the national sports network to return to Fallon and put the boxing event on national television in upcoming years. “I think ESPN goes into these venues looking for the right recipe of good boxing and great crowd response,” said Rick Gray, executive director of the Fallon Convention and Tourism Authority. Fallon Fights kicks off at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8. Tickets are available for purchase at the Fallon Convention Center. Call 775-423-4556 or toll free 866-432-5566.
