Description: Elko’s Nevada Day Parade has been in existence for 27 years.  Beginning in 1988, Jim & Rose Conner began chairing this event with the Elko Jaycees being the sponsor.  This tradition has continued through the years with a small committee of family and friends helping the Conner’s put together this event.  Lori Gilbert, a local newscaster for TV and radio, has announced this event since its origination.  Current sponsors for this event are the Knights of Columbus and Newmont Mining.  Someone from within Elko County is chosen each year as grand marshal.  The committee chooses a theme that has to do with Nevada or Elko County.  Set up begins early on the day of the parade, with the parade usually beginning at 11 a.m.  It travels down the corridor of Commercial Street and onto Idaho Street to follow the usual parade route.  Judges pick the best of the entries and winners are announced through local media.
