(Carson City) Description: Sierra Nevada Ballet is partnering with the Reno Jazz Orchestra, Reno Art Works, The Generator, the Historical Society, Carson Tourism and local Reno and Carson businesses to create a package in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Nevada designed around a brand new original production based on Nevada History. DUKE’S PLACE is an original story dance production designed, written and choreographed by Rosine Bena featuring music by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, and Count Basie played live by the Reno Jazz Orchestra.  Set in 1940’s and 50’s Reno, DUKE’S PLACE presents an important part of Nevada’s history telling the story of a magical reunion between a father and long lost daughter.  The Sierra Nevada Ballet and The Reno Jazz Orchestra will present a stunning dance production set to live jazz music. The production also features international tap star, Sam Weber, (known as the “fastest feet in Tap”), former Joffrey Ballet principal, Domingo Rubio (featured in the Robert Altman film, THE COMPANY), and Sierra Nevada Ballet principal, Ananda Bena-Weber, with a cast of 20 professional dancers, 15 to 20 student dancers and the full 16 piece orchestra with music arranged and conducted by Chuck Reider.
