On Friday, March 21, 2014 from 1 to 6 p.m., Nevadans are invited to be a part of history and attend the Battle Born Birthday Cake celebration held at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. A signature Nevada 150 event, the festivities commemorate the 150th Anniversary of President Lincoln signing into the law the act enabling Nevada Statehood on March 21, 1864. This free event will feature a day full of entertainment and cake, similar to the historic centennial cake event held in 1964. The cake, weighing in at 1300 pounds (with frosting), will be constructed in the shape of the state of Nevada, consisting of 9,000 slices and spanning 13-feet-by-21-feet. The day will consist of performances throughout the day including the Carson City Symphony’s youth strings group, STRAZZ performing the Reno Philharmonic’s newly commissioned arrangements of “Home Means Nevada”, the state’s official “Honorary Sesquicentennial Poet” Waddie Mitchell, an appearance by Mark Twain portrayed by the acclaimed McAvoy Lane, a special performance of Sarah Winnemucca portrayed by Dianna Borges, an appearance by President Lincoln portrayed by Wally Earhart, a performance by the University of Nevada Cadet Marching Band, James Lee Reeves who will be debuting his Nevada 150 anthem “Battle Born, Nevada Proud” and special “appearances” by other historical Nevadans, Nevada Sesquicentennial Commissioners and others. The event will be held inside the Sage Café at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. The public is invited to attend the event from 1 to 6 p.m. The Battle Born Birthday Cake Committee is seeking donations for the making of the cake and the celebration donations may be sent to; Battle Born Birthday Cake Celebration Heidi Englund C/O Nevada Historical Society, 1650 N.
